Can A Chain Saw Be Used To Trim Bushes?

A chainsaw can be used to trim bushes, hedges and shrubs.  While not as effective as a hedge trimmer, a chainsaw can cut fast enough to trim through lighter woods. But chainsaws are not good for precision cuts. A chainsaw is very useful in tidying up your garden.

 Select Bar Size

The length of the bar for chainsaws are longer in order to cut bigger woods.  However, chainsaws often allow up to 3 different size bars to work on the chainsaw. If you plan on cutting a lot of bushes, go to the lowest bar size recommended for your chainsaw, which will give added control to the cutting and reduce the cutting area. If you're just going to trim the bush without much concern of the small areas, use the large bar size. Longer bar lengths are used in cutting bigger shrubs and bushes.

Sharping the Chains

To cut the materials effectively, the owner must maintain the sharpness of the chainsaws. The sharpness of the chains determine the precision of the cuts, and prevent the chainsaws from snapping with twigs. The chain will also have less tension in the chains making it more loose and will run smoothly. The maintenance can also prevent the breakage of the chains.

Operating Process

The owner can avoid unwanted injuries from correctly operating the chainsaws. By pulling the trigger fully, you can expect a maximum chain speed that will make landscaping jobs very easy. Correct operation can also reduce the risk of bind and chain breakage.  If possible, work with just the tip and the underside of the chain, which has the highest speeds and most effective cutting. If some risks persist, it is advisable that you only use the tip of the chainsaw. Always keep good footing, and work with a partner in case of an accident.

Safety Considerations

 When using a chainsaw, always wear the proper protective clothing. An added piece of protective gear --- chainsaw chaps --- should be used when brushing. It is used in your front legs to protect it from chain pops during the trimming of shrubs. It is not advisable to cut shrubs that are taller than you, the chainsaw can fall on you if you will experience an imbalance.
